The evolution of malware

On the other hand, there can be too much technological innovation, as pointed out in this piece about the malware “arms race” from Net Security. Imagine all the free time for innovation the rest of us would have if not swamped by spam and malware. (Okay, this is a little off-topic for me, since I’m not the one teaching our new Information Security course here —- that’s going to be offered this fall by my terrific colleagues Professors Kim and Yi — but the malware “self-defense” classification scatter plots in the article caught my eye. It would be interesting to look at those in comparison with generic classifications of memes, for example, those so-called “viruses of the mind”.)

Anyway, for those of us who are now terribly leary about opening any file attachments, here’s FilesFrom, a free file transfer utility that may help us practice better data hygiene (and help unclog the Net pipes as well!)
