The philosophical problem of truth in librarianship

I see that my little doctoral student exercise in “citation systems as theories of truth” may gradually be sneaking its way into the Web of Science through the back door, thanks to a paragraph citing it in this intriguing article in Library Quarterly. (It has been cited quite nicely before, but not in the particular philosophical context in which I was attempting, rather naïvely, to place it!) Herder, hmm? I’ll have to brush up on my German before I can venture an opinion, but the authors are certainly to be commended for not rounding up the usual suspects. (Though the fact that there seems to be no mention of Wilson’s Second-Hand Knowledge and issues of cognitive authority in all this talk of truth and librarianship does leave me a bit puzzled. Fortunately, however, I’m sure someone more knowledgeable about all this than I —perhaps John Budd?— will sooner or later address any omissions on that front.)
