I admit that sometimes I do these headers just because I like the way they look.
But the article I’m referring to here (from the International Journal of Digital Curation) is very interesting and useful for anyone interested in thinking about the information lifecycle of databases, and it actually is about “dating” the CIA World Factbook.
Although I don’t teach our database development course here (it’s very ably taught by my colleague, Dr. Yong Mi Kim), I have an ongoing interest in them (largely because I think they are essential to any collections work, and also because I had a good deal of experience with them back in my marketing research days. There is nothing like immersing yourself in a massive proprietary database to make the workday fly by!)
So I am very taken with The Manga Guide to Databases. Who says that databases have to be dull?! (Especially when there are also things on the horizon like Xquery?
